The Pendragon Cycle - Rise of the Merlin

The Pendragon Cycle is one of the most ambitious original series of the moment. To introduce the world and set the tone ahead of release, we created an immersive WebGL experience that acts as an interactive prologue. Instead of a static landing page, the site invites visitors to move through atmospheric scenes, discover visual story cues, and get a first impression of the show’s world, characters, and cinematic style.
In collaboration with Format-3, this experience blends real-time 3D, sound, and motion to create a guided journey through key elements of the story. As users explore, the environment responds with subtle animations, visual accents, and transitions that reveal fragments of the narrative. The goal isn’t to explain the full plot, but to give fans a sense of scale, mood, and worldbuilding while keeping the story intact for the actual series.

Key Objectives

Set the tone for the series with a high-quality interactive experience

We focused on creating an experience that mirrors the atmosphere of the show: grounded, textured, and cinematic.
This meant building real-time environments with controlled lighting, spatial audio cues, and motion design that reinforces the tone rather than distracting from it.
All transitions, animations, and interactions were intentionally paced to reflect the dramatic rhythm of the series.

Create a digital entrypoint that feels premium and cinematic

We treated the website like an opening sequence rather than a landing page.
Each section was designed as a “shot” with its own composition, focal point, and motion timing.
High-resolution assets load progressively, camera moves are smooth and deliberate, and interactive elements blend seamlessly into the environment—resulting in an experience that feels crafted.

Create a digital entrypoint that feels premium and cinematic

We used layered storytelling: environments, symbols, and motion work together to build intrigue. Users explore instead of reading, which creates a more film-like reveal of the world.
The site’s pacing, transitions, and visual hierarchy were all designed to match the production value of the show and help the streaming platform's position the series as a flagship release.

Use WebGL to create depth and increase the user experience

WebGL allowed us to build real-time 3D scenes with dynamic lighting, atmospheric effects, and camera motion that responds to the user.
We leveraged custom shaders, lightweight particle systems, and GPU-friendly materials to add depth without compromising performance.
The result is an experience where landscapes feel alive, objects have physical presence, and scrolling becomes a guided cinematic movement rather than a simple page navigation.

Optimized Performance Without Compromise

The experience is built with the same technical foundation we use for complex interactive projects such as Dior’s "Garden of Dreams" campaign and Coca-Cola’s "Recycled Records" project. It combines high-fidelity motion with careful optimization to make sure the experience feels smooth on both modern and older devices. We used a mix of custom shaders, lightweight particle systems, and streaming assets to keep loading times low while still delivering a cinematic feel.

Results & Ongoing Partnership

This project showcases the ways we can extend stories and communities into a digital realm. The collaboration with Format-3 went extremely well, and we are continuing to produce experiences for other clients.
